Our client, a family with a young daughter and a menagerie of animals, had a striking personal aesthetic and came to us because we could do different. They loved concrete, timber, colour – especially red and blue – and wanted a renovation and addition to their California Bungalow that incorporated bespoke features to suit their style and lifestyle. We transformed a bedroom into a study and ensuite, renovated the kitchen and extended the house to accommodate a new living area.
The family loves to cook and the kitchen features high-performance appliances integrated within black and timber joinery with vibrant pops of red shelving, tapware and lighting. The terrazzo island benchtop has a custom selection of aggregate to complement the bold palette. The aggregate in the concrete floor and built-in seat is also custom, as well as the colour of the bathroom tiles.
Spatial planning is key in small extensions. The curved window seat provides additional seating for guests, creating a sense of inclusiveness, while the adjacent picture window offers views of the garden outside.
